The Swanson River and Swan Lake Canoe Trails are located in the northwestern portion of the Kenai Peninsula. Take the Sterling Highway 10 miles east from Soldotna, Alaska, or about 1.5 miles west from the town of Sterling, Alaska, then turn north onto the Swanson River Road. Turn right onto the Swan Lake Road at mile 16.4. From there it is approximately 3.5 miles to the West Entrance of the Swan Lake Canoe Trails. It is an additional 6 miles on to the East Entrance of the Swan Lake Canoe Trails, and another 2.5 miles further on the Swan Lake Road to the entrance to the Swanson River Canoe Trails. Parking areas are provided with toilet facilities. A registration box is located at each entrance. All canoeists are required to register as they enter the canoe trails.
